The Jewellery Quarter is currently undergoing a transformation. Trendy bars and restaurants share space with old factories in a process of gentrification that cause controversy within neighbours and business owners.

The Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Plan (JQNP) has to lead the metamorphosis of the area and spread the seed for a thriving future. The immediate priorities of the plan are to fight dereliction of historic buildings and attract new investors to bring more residents and improve the lack of services.

However, some businesses warn that, if the plan succeeds, the rents will rise and the neighbourhood will be unaffordable, forcing manufacturers to leave the area.

I have interviewed residents involved in the JQNP to know their thoughts about the neighbourhood’s transformation. Click on the interactive map to listen to their opinions.
